I have been participating in an Artist Trading Card swap with other Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZTs). These cards are Zentangle Inspired Art, since they introduce color and are created on paper tiles different from the standard Zentangle size of 3.5 by 3.5 inches and some are of different materials. Participating in the card swap has been really fun and inspired me.

Workshops in Grand Rapids will commence in March. Check the schedule toward the end of February.

Beyond Basics: Tangling on Renaissance Tiles
Prerequisite: Basics Workshop
This workshop will explore tangling on the Renaissance tiles. Some new tangle patterns will be presented, but the workshop will focus more on learning to use the three colors, black, white and brown, along with more subtle shading techniques. Cost is $35, which includes tan tiles, a brown Micron 01 pen, and a white charcoal pencil. Participants should bring the black Micron 01 pen, Zentangle pencil and smudger from the Basics Kit bag. It is a good idea to bring a small art journal to a Beyond Basics workshop.
Renaissance Tiles are Here!
Zentangle has released their new tan tiles, which they are calling Renaissance Tiles. These tiles bring together the two techniques already used in tangling, white on black tiles to bring the light to the dark, and black on white tiles with shading to add the dark or shadow to the light.
The tan tiles make possible creating images integrating these two techniques. The tan tiles are tangled in black, brown and white and use the juxtaposition of these two techniques as figured prominently during the Renaissance in a drawing technique called Chiaroscuro. Think Rubens and Rembrandt.
